A.P.H.C.A.
Founded in 1991, the Association for the Psychosocial Health of Children and Adolescents (A.P.H.C.A.) is a scientific, non-profit organization, whose mandate is to develop activities and provide services relevant to the psychological wellbeing and mental health of children and adolescents in Greece. Up until 2015, flagship projects have included, but are not limited to: “MELIA”, with housing capacity of up to 8 children, aged 5 to 12 years old, whose parents or guardians face debilitating mental health problems and are unable to care for them. The final goal is for children to return to their homes, the day center “ORION”, for teens facing mental health issues and two 24/7 Helplines providing tele-counseling; one for parents, educators and mental health professionals and specialists, and one for children and adolescents, and the Educational Center, offering seminars and further training for mental health and social welfare professionals and educators.
Post 2005, the organization also developed notable bullying prevention and intervention programs and activities for children in primary and secondary school and published training material for the teachers.
